This class will introduce a brief summary of wildlife diseases, their investigation, and the roles they play in the conservation of herpetofauna.

One day class; 60 minutes | AGES: 15-18

In this course, we aim to introduce students to the concepts of wildlife disease ecology and investigation as well as the important roles that diseases are playing in the conservation narratives of herpetofauna. We will also get a look at live animals who are impacted by wildlife disease.

This course will review key concepts and vocabulary relevant to wildlife disease ecology, using examples from well known wildlife diseases, such as rabies. These concepts and words will be used to help students guide themselves through the unfolding of many herpetofauna disease stories, in particular the emergence of the two species of Chytrid fungus, as well as Ranavirus and Snake Fungal Disease.

Students will learn about the ecology and impacts these diseases have had on amphibian and reptile populations, what impacts those declines have on an ecosystem level, and what can be done to protect herpetofauna into the future.

Register, Ages 15-18
